Back in the States

I had a wonderful time in Brazil. Five weeks of joy and rediscovery! Since I went to my home country to survey some possibilities for future ministry, Brazil became alive to my senses. I saw new things that otherwise would be hidden. The people were much alive and different from twenty-two years ago! A new mentality, a new way of seeing things, a new face that I had to be introduced to. It is hard to explain, but I fell in love with my people again!

Also, I had a great joy in visiting with my Dad. He has been a great blessing for me and, more than ever, he was a source of inspiration for me during this time of rediscovery. I saw in him the faithfulness of God. He is now ninety years-old but still has a mind that is sharp and in harmony with life. His faith is simple and uncomplicated: it is simple because he did not change what he believes, it is so simple it is stronger than iron! It is uncomplicated because he believes the sublime and unchangeable truths of the Gospel in the same way I remember him believing thirty years ago. Jesus Christ is as Real for him today as He was when he was a young man. This gave me hope! I continue to be amazed by the profoundness of the Christian life because of examples like my Dad's life.

I returned last week and now I am on my way to Russia. In a little more than a month I will be leaving for a three month ministry in Siberia. I ask your prayers for wisdom and strength for me during that time. Meanwhile, I am enjoying my family, our house, the snow here in Lewiston, and our small pets. Life is good! But it is only good because of the Lord, because of His faithfulness and kindness.

Finally, I'm glad I'm back in the US. This is my home! As I sit here at my favored coffee shop, I am reminded that this is part of my life. Yes! This land is my home!

Ehud, I pray for you when the Lord Jesus brings you to my mind. I figure God knows what is going on and he will give you all you need in those precious moments I share with Him on behalf of you. Ministry with you in Ephrata will always remain for me treasured memories of serving with a sence of reformation. I continue to draw from standing on solid ground...Jesus in the midst of change. It sounds like God is doing a work in you by giving you a love and passion for the people of Brazil. God also seems to give you a sence of roots through these wonderful people especially your earliest mentor in life...your father. I will pray for you again after I place this last period.
